"Were we a little alone? Yes." On the sidelines of a visit to Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis), François Bayrou returned on Thursday, July 31, to American customs duties and the agreement reached by the EU with the United States , expressing "a feeling of dissatisfaction." In the trade battle with the United States, "I know that all the French authorities, and in particular the President of the Republic, were those who fought the most against concessions that were considered excessive," the Prime Minister affirmed.
"Do we have the feeling that within the European Union, political and economic forces were rather on a path to finding accommodations? Yes," he added, estimating that from his point of view, "the path for Europe is a path of affirmation and resistance when necessary and pride as often as possible."
The head of government, who had sharply criticized the trade agreement concluded between the European Union and the United States on Monday , deploring a "submission" of Europe, considered that this was "not the end of the story" , and that there was a need for "a process of ratification that is still not fully clarified" of this agreement. "We need to verify the exact scope of these agreements, and the States will have their say in one way or another" , he added.
